Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has launched its 2025 call for applications for three fellowship programmes in Berlin. These programmes are open to journalists living in regimes restricting freedom of the press and the right information.

The Reporters Without Borders (RSF) German section annually offers three fellowships open to journalists living in places with restricted freedom of the press and right to information. The fellowship programmes welcome the selected candidates to Berlin for a time period of up to six months. Are now open for applications the following fellowships:

  • The “Empowering Journalists in the Digital Field” Fellowship is a programme funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises. It is an in-depth training programme on digital security aimed at journalists from crisis areas who have to deal with digital threats such as surveillance or digital violence. The fellows will learn how to better protect themselves and their sources, to become multipliers for digital self-defence in their networks back home.   • The Rest & Resilience Fellowship is a joint programme run by RSF and the taz Panter Foundation. During their stay, media professionals at risk can take some time off from their daily obligations in order to recover from their difficult working conditions, and expand their personal and professional horizons.   • The Reporting Fellowship is focused on producing journalistic work. The selected candidates can create a new project, or continue to work on and complete an existing one. The project can span various media (visual, audio, or writing) and should be realisable within the set time frame of up to six months. RSF Germany offers two fellowships for 2025 in this programme. The application deadline for all the programmes is 25 November 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (CET).
The projected fellowship residence in Berlin would be from 1 May to 31 October 2025.
