Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Spain, in partnership with Spanish universities, has launched two fellowship programmes for the 2025-2026 academic year to support Spanish-speaking journalists at risk. The application deadline for both programmes is Friday 11 July 2025.
1- Third edition of UMH-Elche #EspacioSeguroRSF for Press Freedom
RSF Spain and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) are offering a university residency for a Latin American journalist at risk as part of the third edition of the UMH-Elche #EspacioSeguroRSF for Press Freedom.
The beneficiary will be appointed as an honorary lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at UMH and will spend three months on the Elche campus during the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, from 15 September to 15 December 2025. The application must include:
- An explanation of the applicant’s professional career as a journalist, including their university and non-university education.
- A personal statement explaining why they believe they are a good fit for the project and how they would benefit from a stay under this programme.
- A proposal for three 60-minute journalism workshops aimed at journalism students and centred on specific research, topics or coverages.

2- Second edition of the Alicia Gómez Montano postgraduate training scholarship for persecuted and exiled journalists
RSF Spain, along with RTVE (Radiotelevisión Española) and the University of Alcalá de Henares, has launched the second edition of the Alicia Gómez Montano postgraduate training scholarship for persecuted and exiled journalists at RTVE Instituto. The 2025-2026 programme will run through the academic year (September 2025 to June 2025), and will include:
- Return air travel to Madrid, if needed;
- Shared accommodation in Alcalá de Henares provided by the University in accordance with its binding rules and regulations
- A monthly stipend amounting to 600 EUR
- Health insurance, if required.
Applicants must send a cover letter, a CV, and, if they have suffered persecution, a brief description of the threats they have faced.
