Each year, the Human Rights Press Awards recognise the best human rights reporting in Asia. Its 2024 edition is now open for submissions until 5 February 2024.
The Human Rights Press Awards are prizes that celebrate journalists who do outstanding reporting on human rights issues in Asia. Submissions for its 2024 edition are now open until 5 February 2024, while the winners will be announced on World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2024.
Originally organised by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club Hong Kong (FCCHK), the Awards were put on hold after the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong in June 2021. It is now jointly administered by Human Rights Watch (HRW), Arizona State University, the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club (TFCC) and the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT).
This year, due to the increasing challenges faced by journalists reporting on human rights in Asia, the Awards will feature a new category titled “Newsrooms in exile,” to recognise the many brave journalists who have carried on reporting about human rights in their home countries from afar.
